UOB partnered with Layers to produce two impactful reels showcasing the stories of 2023’s Sustainability Impact Award winners: The Sundowner Bee Rescue and The Social Kitchen.

Through compelling storytelling, these reels highlight the dedication and positive impact of these organisations, amplifying their voices to inspire others and encourage submissions and nominations for the 2024 UOB Sustainability Impact Awards.

The Sundowner: ‘Bee-hind the rescue’

This heartfelt video features Clarence Chua, recipient of the 2023 UOB Sustainability Impact Award.

In 2020, Clarence founded the Sundowner Bee Rescue initiative, a non-profit dedicated to protecting Singapore’s bees. While most pest control companies opt for extermination, The Sundowners take on a more labor-intensive but humane approach to safely relocate entire bee colonies. Beyond rescue work, they also run educational programs to raise awareness of bees’ vital role in ecosystems and climate health.

This project reflects Layers’ commitment to amplifying voices that matter — in this case, the quiet but quintessential voice of the bees.

The Social Kitchen: ‘Extra Ordinary Dreams’

This inspiring video features Avelyn and Michael from The Social Kitchen, proud recipients of the 2023 UOB Sustainability Impact Award.

The Social Kitchen is a purpose-driven platform empowering disadvantaged communities through employment, skills training, and mentorship. Operating seven cafes islandwide with renowned F&B partners — The Social Kitchen creates opportunities where individuals build confidence, essential skills, and pathways to financial independence.

Michael, once a beneficiary himself, now learns backend operations like Excel reporting and supporting management. His journey, along with many others, reflects The Social Kitchen’s core belief: that everyone deserves a chance to dream and achieve.
